Have a farmall 400 that did not have factory power steering so i pieced one together, using factory equipement. But it deadheads against itself. I pull the hydraulic handles back and the power steering works but in the neutral position no power steering. Anybody tell me whats wrong and how to fix. Thanks, Aaron

Did you use a flow divider to bleed off a constant flow of oil for the steering and allowing the excess to go to hydraulic functions or did you simply "TEE" the steering into the hydraulic flow WITHOUT a flow divider, which ain't gonna work?

The flow divider valve is the most likely culprit.

My 400 had the same symptoms as yours does. After using it for awhile the power steering started working like it should, probably some crud in the valve that just needed some time to work loose.

You can try taking the valve apart to clean and check it out or you can get a rebuilt flow divider valve from steelwheelranch.com
