Restored IH #37 Disc

Pardon the JD "60" Here is a photo of my father's first hydraulic implement. My modern farmer friends needed a small disc to fill in their ruts from irrigation systems. They put all new IH 18" scallops blades, new bearings, new tires, and paint/decals/SMV. They don"t have any RED equipment, but they love this classic piece. It has caused many gallons of gas to go through our long-gone trusty Farmall "M"

Awesome picture. Just this week my brother and I got to talking about fixing up our grandfathers #37. If you get a chance I'd love to see some more pictures. More detail the better. What is the benifit to the scallop blades? Where were u able to get decals?

I did not choose the scalloped blades, but my friends thought they would be more aggressive for the rut leveling. I was a little surprised that the 18"ers worked so well. Decals from Maple Hunter Decals on the web. They sanded, primed, and double painted the whole rig. We do not have a middle-buster for it,but we are looking? ([email protected])

The bracket where the cylinder mounts is missing on ours and someone welded a make-shift mount for it. We want to take it back to original. Know where someone might have a parts disc? Have any pictures of that...maybe we could make it.

Seth, If you send me an email, I could send you a picture of the cylinder bracket. I broke mine once by hooking up the hoses backward. The bracket is quite light and will break if you lower the cylinder with the locking pin in by mistake. That's probably why yours is not original. Had someone weld mine up so it is still original. I think the #37 disk is on the on-line Case-IH parts page. Al

I patented a slotted bar to replace that small hinged pawl at that base of the cylinder that holds the cylinder in place.

Just google "Patent 5,167,286". I made all the drawings my self but the patent attorney numbered them and wrote up my description. Basically what my floating bar did was allow the cylinder to float with the wheels while in use. It also allowed the cylinder to retract all the way when the transport pin had the disk locked in transport mode. We used it without a flaw for 7 years before I applied for a patent.

Seth the notched blades cut a lot better. Not much need to put them on the back gangs but it's up to the person. I my self would but them on the front and back.

Agreed... generally on discs with large blades, the outer blade on the rear is smaller so it doesn't leave a big "ditch". Smaller blade discs can be the same on the end without that problem.
