400 piston rod twisted

I need some expert advise on my c-264. The very
front piston is twisted about an 1/8 inch counter-
clockwise. It needed a head gasket that"s when I
saw this. It"s a step piston. It"s not hitting the
head now. I"m not ready yet to afford an overhaul.
Am I looking at a major problem if I just put a new
gasket on and keep running it? Thanks guys ....Tim

You could have a few different problem all of which would cause that. I would not run it till you found out what the problem is. Bent rod, wrist pin problem in the piston, rod bear is out, or even a cracked piston. No matter what I would pull the pan off and since you have the head off any how pop that piston and rod out to have a good look at it

I wouldnt run it that way. Only going to get worse and cause lots more damage. Ypu could end up with a hole in the block and a ruined crank among other things.

The cast top of the piston could be crooked on the Piston casting. This would cause no issue or reason to replace! If you pull the pan and look carefully at the wrist pin and its relationship to straight, it could be just fine to run it! Jim
