SuperAV problems

Just bought a SuperAV at a good price. Previous owner had it laid up for about 3 years. It starts easily, but then runs fast and then slows and then fast again, no matter what I do with the throttle. Is this a problem with the governor? Also, it runs hot after just a couple of minutes. I don"t know if it has a water pump or not. Could this be a bad impeller. The radiator was replaced about a year before it was laid up. I"m new at this and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You need to check the fuel flow to the carb from the gas tank. Disconnect the gas line at the carb and see if you have a full flow of gas from the tank. Hold a clean container to catch the gas. If you have just a trickle your gas tank needs cleaning. If you have a full stream of gas from the gas line you need to remove the tube fitting where your gas line connects and look for a screen behind that fitting that may be plugged with rust or dirt blocking the fuel flow to your carb. If that looks ok you probably need to remove the carb and soak it in carb cleaner and blow out the jets with air. Make sure the float is set at the correct height
that should be in your manual. If you don't have one, buy one. They're a big help.

You need to make sure your timing isn't running late. You should use a timing lite. If your tractor has a water pump you need to check the impeller to make sure it isn't worn or not turning. Feel your bottom radiator hose to see if it's hot when you think the engine is hot. If it isn't hot you may have blockage in the radiator. One other thing is to check the thermostat to make sure it will open. It may be stuck shut. Put it in a pan of water and see what temp it opens. I wouldn't run it till you find the problem as you may crack the head. Hal

Sound like its hunting,I would first check the gov. carb. linkage make sure none is in a bind, then if you have an manual you need to check the linkage adjustment, if that dosnt fix it I would clean and adjust carb. SAV would not have a water pump [ if someone hasnt changed something ], what is it doing when it gets hot. Mike
