Proper Hood Lettering for '49 Farmall H

Maine-H

New User
Hello, I'm new here, and I am starting a restoration on my 1949 Farmall H. I have a question about the proper hood decals. I can just barely make out the old hood lettering on my '49 H. It says, "McCormick Deering" over the word "Farmall". All the other '49 H's I've seen on the web say only, "McCormick" above the word "Farmall" with no "Deering". Which is correct for my '49 "H" serial #311xxx?

The decal changed from "McCORMICK - DEERING" to "McCORMICK" during the year in 1949. Serial 311xxx was built during the month of Mxx before the change.

If you go to a machinery dealer and ask for Farmall H decals, you get the ones that say "McCormick" on them. That's why "all the other '49 H's" have just McCormick decals.

How many other '49 H's have you come across? I rarely see more than two from any given year at a tractor show.

I have a similar problem with my Farmall H. It was built at Geelong, but all the decals available now say International Harvester Company of Australia Pty Ltd, Melbourne. I can just make out the original decals on my Farmall M, which show Geelong as the place. So, I am going to get decals made as per the originals on my M for both tractors and go with what was there before.
