W400 tach drive cable

Can anyone tell me if the tach drive cable is the same for a 400 and a w400 with the tach on the oposite side?

The tach, tach drive, and cable are not in my TC-56 W-400 parts book. My edition is a reprint and I cannot find a publishing date.

I have done the same as you with my W-400LP. My tractor now has a tach. I had to match up and cut a left-hand hole in the shroud. It is a mirror image of the F-400 hole.

I don't think IH considered putting a tach on the W-400 but I am reasonably sure that a F-400 cable will be allright. I am using a 140 cable and it just barely fits.

found this in my w400-w450 book.

A F-400/450 book will have those parts. There is no disputing that.

I don't have a F-400 parts book to see if they do have the same parts.

I own F-400 serial number 520. It came with a shroud using the tach knockout, similar to an electrical junction box. Note the word "knockout". It had to be beaten out to remove, as opposed to later shrouds that had a removable tach hole cover.

My F-400 also has the non-tach distributer. OTOH, my W-400 (serial 1723) was equipped at the factory with a tach type distributer but no tach drive insert.

So IH gradually allowed for the tach in "fits and starts". I have seen a F-300 with an original tach so I presume the F-400 could be had the same way but not at the start of production. When they built my F-400, they were starting to think about it or maybe they were waiting for Stewart-Warner to ramp up production.
