H front cover

I got the front covers and pump from a 300 to install on my H for
live hydraulic. The two steel plates looks identical. Is this possible,
and is it a serial number issue if so? I am wondering if I need to
change plates.

Covers were changed to the same distributor drive bolt pattern in 1950. Don't remember the serial # break.

It is quite possible then you already have the front cover you need.

Break number is: 344864, so if your serial number is above that you'd be wasting your time.

I have it almost apart now. I am thinking the same thing right now, but will finish it and change gaskets while I am in there. The studs on the water pump were almost worn in half.

Is the cam gear on the newer H the same material as the 300?
