cub pto shifter

I'm looking to buy a 55 cub with a belly mower but the pto shifter will not stay in. Is this a big problem or an easy fix?

I dont think its a big deal. If its like the 140 there is a ball and spring in there and i think your spring is broken or the ball is missing. You will have to remove the PTO to check it. I have never taken the PTO of the cub yet but some one eles will tell you for sure.

It could be the coupler that the shifter moves is worn,or the shaft is worn, I have seen this a lot on Cub's with rotary mowers. Aftermaket parts are available, $100 to $150 depending on where you get them.

Not a difficult or a major task.

You need to purchase the shift lever along with the coupling because the lug on the side of the shift lever that moves the coupling wears out.

Remove the filler plug on top of the differential and use a flashlight to line up the parts during assembly.
