Have looked at at several Cubs, Super Cubs, Cub lowboy and others but most had Sherman Williams overhauls and smoking, transmission rattles bad clutch etc. But I have found a 53 Super A that is a second owner and been used for farming. The owner is over 80. It has a mower, disc, single plow and all the other implements needed to farm a small garden The steering is tight, transmission and clutch seem good and it has 3 new tires (2 rear). I t needs paint but not too bad, looks like a working farm tractor.

He will take $2500 and that dosen't seem too bad but would like your opinion and anything else I should look at before buying.

Like all these situations, it's very subjective !! I've been looking to buy a SA myself and here in Cheeseland, 2500 would be pretty reasonable. I expect to pay around 3000 for a nice one. Craig
 
If it comes with the implements it is a very good deal, and being able to talk to the second owner and get its life history is just icing on the cake! GET IT!
 
I think you would be wise to by the Super A. I bought mine in October of 1965. With mine I got the planter, cultivator, double mole (sp) board breaking plow and blade that will fit under belly or up front. I've used and worked on my Dad's Cub and I prefer the SA. The SA has more power than the cub and the touch hydraulics its great. In all the years I've had the SA I have had several batteries, had the generator rebuilt 2 times, replace the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and the freeze plug at the rear of the engine. I rebuilt the hydraulic pump in 1966 and never anymore problems with that. I'm in my mid 70's now and the equipment is getting a little heavy but I still manage. A few years back I bought a '53 SM and I put middle busters on it for bedding the garden and I just got through putting power steering on the SM. Both tractors are great. Go with the SA and I think you will be happy. James
