Loads of thanks to all who helped me work thru the timing issue with my Cub - apparently firing on the exhaust stroke.
I went thru all the steps again this morning including "thumbing for pressure" on cylinder 1. Then carefully bumping the engine with the hand crank to get it TDC. When I then looked at the rotor, I knew it was 180 degrees off. So, I corrected that.
Then picked up my new manifold and installed it.
Then poured gas into all 4 plug holes, installed plugs, then pulled the starter rod.
That baby fired up ran for 10-20 seconds and sounded BEAUTIFUL!!
Time and again you folks told me what to do and it seems that I never got things quite right until this AM. Thanks VERY much to each of you who assisted - and for your patience.
After I receive the carb, rebuilt, I'll gas her up, check essentials then, hopefully, go for a slow and short ride. Will post a before and after photo when all is well and ready.
