Crank pulley on Super A

Hey Guys,

Reinstalling the Crank pulley on Super A and it needs a little more persuasion that I want to give it. Cleaned the crank and lubed it up, but still lack about a inch and she ain't budging. Any tricks out there? I could heat it up with the torch but I don't want to burn up the oil seal when it makes contact with it. I'm using a 3 pound hammer with a block, got a 12 pound but don't like all that pressure on the mains.

You may not want to go to all this trouble, but it worked great for me. I tried this first (using a bottle jack)...

... but it wanted to flex all over the place, so I went to this, with the 4x4 providing a MUCH more stable base...

... and I heated the pulley in our oven to some 200 degrees (maybe more, can't remember), and the bottle jack is smooth enough that it causes no jarring to the rear main. Went on slick as could be...

I'm sure there'll be better ideas. Good luck

Thanks a Million,

Should have thought of that one myself. Already have some long pieces of all thread. I'll give it a shot.

Yea that works really well, but mine doesn't have threads in the crank. I thought that was strange. Just a tapered hole.

Must be an earlier model, my 1950 C and 1953 SA cranks both have threaded holes.
