Power steering for a cub?

Ok stop laughing now.

Mom is almost 70 but still enjoys getting out and mowing. It is getting a little harder for her to steer in the tight spots though. I keep everything greased but it's still a little tough for her. Does anybody make a power steering setup for these, or any other idea to ease the steering some?
Thanks,
Mike

If she mowed at rated speed in third gear, that should ease the steering effort. Pump her full of coffee first.

Or she (that means you) could convert the tractor to narrow front. It's been done.

But failing those two options, all it takes is a small front pump driven through the crankshaft hole in the front casting, a reservoir, some hoses, and a torque generator. I'm sure it's been done but I don't have pictures. Maybe the archive has a few. I have seen an A with PS.

I'm thinking it would be easier to sell the Cub and buy a later model garden/utility tractor with PS. I know JD made several models and some would be Cub size, and I suppose other makes like NH do also.
A Char-Lynn torque generator, a pump and all the hoses and fixtures to connect everything, plus what you could sell the Cub for, would probably about cover the price of a good used 650 or 750 JD.

Easier yes, but 70-year-old mom may not be willing to give up her favorite tractor...

You can tap off the Cub's hydraulics using a bypass block and a priority valve, and use the priority flow from the valve to power the steering.

There are two ways to go about it:

1. Charlynn torque generator installed in the steering shaft.

2. Replace steering shaft with a hand pump, and attach a small steering cylinder to the tie rods for true "hydrostatic" steering.

Someone on the Cub board put needle bearing at the bottom of the spindles on his cub. Said it made it steer a lot easier. Might check over there.
