Need help in adjusting the clutch on my 1940 H . Never done it before so I need all the hlep I can get . I have no free play in the pedal, also slips when I put her in a heavy pull. Thanks Guys!!! Kenny

if i had no free playplay in the clutch i would not even think of doing any heavy pulling. thats the most important adjustment. just asking for trouble by slipping it. have anykind of free play is better than no freeplay. but if its slipping the damage may already be done, meaning clutch job. to adjust for freeplay adjust the clutch rod so you have about 3/4 to 1" between trans cover and clutch petal where it rests.

Here I go again with the owners manual thing, but that procedure is described very accurately in the owners manual. Pictures and everything.

I agree with rusty... Owner's manual is CHEAP to buy, INVALUABLE to have.

Still, the clutch adjustment procedure is extremely simple on an H. All you do is unpin the linkage up front, loosen the lock nut back at the pedal, and adjust it so there's about 1" of free pedal play measured flat out from the top of the platform.

It may be too late for your clutch, though. Someone had to run the clutch with zero play for a LONG time to get to the point where it's slipping. That's hard on the clutch and throwout bearing.

Luckily it's pretty easy to change the clutch on an H. You can do it without splitting the tractor, unless the flywheel really needs machining.
