I installed a new 6 volt positive ground voltage regulator that I got from Napa and polarized it like the instructions said. It showed charge on the gage until I shut it off and restarted it. Now I have to polarize it everytime I use it to get it to charge. What could be wrong? Thanks ....Fred

Fred, Same reg you got at NAPA. I had on a C Charged fine. But would go to full dischage when shut off. I asked them for replacement and it has worked fine ever scence. oldiron29

The item that needs and gets Polarized is the Generator NOT the Voltage Regulator......

The first thing I would try is to insure the new VR has a good solid electrical case/frame ground. Maybe use a jumper wire if necessary, it cant work correct unless its (and the genny also, of course) well grounded...
