F-20 piston rings?

I have pulled all 4) pistons out of a 1939 F-20
Part # 1601-D 8000' High altitude piston.
Should have 3 compression rings and 1 oil ring.
I found 3rd groove drilled and has oil ring and 4th has oil ring on all pistons.
Why would someone do this?
Would you put a compression ring in 3rd groove?
How will it run with 2 compression rings and 2) oil ring? Is there a problem with these piston at lower altitude? Trying to figure out what is best to do. oldiron29

I have seen IH diesels with 2 oil rings, I think it would run fine with 2 oil and 2 compression rings. No trouble use high altitude pistons, unless you are running on kerosene.
