Farmall M and 3 Point Brush Hog

I have a 6 foot tow behind brush hog that may be on its last leg. I have a Saginaw 3 point hitch on the M, and was wondering if a medium duty 6 foot brush hog would make the front end too light. I mow some steep hills, and my concern is if I have to raise the mower going up hill, am I asking for it. Thanks for all of your help all of these years.

The M is a pretty heavy tractor plus long on the front so I would not think you would have any problems. I can not say for sure since the M I have does not have a 3 point but if I where to compare it to my Oliver 77 which is pretty much the same size I would not see any problems. Plus if you try it and find it to feel odd to you then you could always add a few lbs to the front to hold it down

it will get a little bit light, but if you use common sence you wont have any problems. I have a 6ft Bushhog brand I use with my M, and if I have it all the way up, thesteering gets a littleeasier, so I hardly ever lift it up higher than my cutting heighth, but my feild is pretty much flat.

I guess I should say don't raise it on hills. What's a hill? I live in western KS. Even if the front end comes up, the mower will stop it from going over backwards. I have a 5 foot bushhog, not the cheap farm store one, but my M has a wide front axle which is heavier. My NF Super H handles it fine also. All I can say is use common sense.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I have a wide front on mine, and when I am ready or the old hog quits, I will get a semi-mounted one with the hydraulic tail wheels. It will probably be a 7 footer. Or, I will purchase a Woods Brush Bull, 6' wide, with dual tail wheels.

I can always back up a steep hill or use the JD 3010 (next best thing to an M).

I think the M with a wide front will do the trick and easily handle a 6' wide, 1,100# brush hog.

I have a 53 Super M I pull a #286 Bush Hog with.(It is a medium duty 3 point Bush Hog 6' mower) I use a few suit case weights on the front.(I mow some pretty steep hills!)It works great, but I would not want ANY more mower than that on it though.
