farmall engines

I have a simple question. I have a farm Bn and an A. both are 1945. Does it hurt the value if the if the A has a bn engine? It runs great and no issues with it. I know that they are they same but just wondering.

doesn't hurt a thing as long as your not trying to sell this tractor as an A . It will work many a year just like it is . Selling it is another story.

It'll most likely hurt the value, but it's very hard to give you a number. Can't say it'll lower it by X dollars.

The problem is you're dealing with a tractor that has a lot of collector interest. So once you swap an engine, you lose half your potential customers right off the bat. Collectors don't want mismatched engines.

So since you're dealing with fewer interested people, it generally means you're going to have a harder time finding somebody who wants to pay "full price".

Not to say you won't, it's just a matter of odds.

With the mismatched, you might get the higher price, but it might take a lot longer for the right person to come along who's willing to pay it.

They should both be 113CID engines that are exactly the same. The serial number should even be close th the same. I would not give it a thought. Jim

Who's ever gonna know the difference? The A-B-BN all share the same serial numbers so it would be pretty hard to tell unless u really examined the block...and they are both 45 models so the numbers can't be that far off...A lot of tractors off the line were built with leftover parts and the numbers didnt always match exactly...

Only matters if original is wanted. Tractor serial numbers and engine numbers should match on both those tractors. They won't when switched.

In'45 the motor and chassi serial numbers would hve matched, and the prefixes would have differed between the models. For a collector's market, a replacement motor will likely make it a no sale so price would be moot. For someone wanting a working tractor, the motors were the same, so value would be affected little if at all.

Not trying to sell it. It runs great and use it around the farm. I know about matching serial numbers I just sold a f-20 that the tag engine and frame and the same number on it. I was just wondering about it. Thanks for all your input

Just to mention , the A engine may not bolt up to the BN in the front without grinding a good sized notch for the steering shaft to pass thru

No, the blocks are identical.
