544 dip stick

I have an IH 544 with a C200, has "International" across the hood, with the plates that say "Farmall 544" to id the model. I don't have the serial # with me, but it is around 15575. When I got it, the firt tim I pulled the dipstick out, it literally broke apart in my hand. I bought a replacement, but was doing a re-build, so I did not look at the new one right away, and tossed the old one. I am quite sure the old one had a "swivel point" near the bottom. Like a loose pop-rivet that would allow the last 2" of the dipstick to drop down into the pan. The dipstick tube is "S" shaped, but the "S" shape is VERY slight. Will try to attach a photo. The replacement dip stick appears that it would just lay flat in the shallow end of the pan. Does anyone have something similar? Or have a C200 you can look at? The local IH dealer can find a dip stick for earlier serial numbers, but it is way too short.

If there is the correct number of quarts of new oil in the engine after the rebuild, and you have the new filter installed and filled with oil from the initial startup, I would put the new dipstick in and see if it touches the oil. If not, I would get a longer stick, from an RV or such, and cut it to a length that is usable and mark it at full with a small drill, or punch mark. This will at least be operational until you find an original. If yours broke, they may have all gone to the dip stick grave yard in the sky! Jim
