f4 mag on 10-20

I bought a 10 20 without a mag and was wondering if a later f4 mag would bolt right up and couple like it should. Or should I look for an E4A? wich mag is better?

the F4 mag i would say is better as it has the auto impulse, as the E4 is manual impulse coupling and needs to be set each time you start the tractor. would need to go by serial # to find out which one it uses. the F4 should bolt right up. the last of the E4 also had auto impulse coupling. the F4 was intrduced in 1933 and 34.

an E4A mag is just as good as an F-4. dont be scared by the manual impulse. once your tractor is tuned and running good, it should always start on the first crank.

secondly, as we discussed in the other thread we need your serial number to get you the correct mag since late style F-4's are shorter than early ones.

you need the correct coupler to match the mag, mag dont matter.couplers are different lengths.

but why half a** it when you can do it right form the get go?

out of all the tractors ive parted down over the years, the only ones that ever had any sort of adapter/spacer were the ones that had mags other than IHC one retrofitted.

for example the E4 mag does have that adapter with the 2- 1/4" bolts for fine tuning the timing which i am refering to. lots of times those adapters are lost.its all GENUINE IHC.
