electronic ignition

Hi, The lobes on my distributer that opens the points are worn. There does not seem to be any excessive play in the shaft, but the lobes are worn irregularly making the gap in the points different on every lobe. My question is if I switched to an electronic ignition would that solve this problem. Thanks, Mark.

It sould but I've never messed with the Pertronicx so can't be sure. Check tractor parts here on this site. They have the IE kits and reman distributers too.

Excessive is more than .001" up and down and sideways, (not in and out).
If the cam bushing is OK, then the Petronix system will be fine. If it is worn, the system will have variability between the magnet ring, and the pickup, if not contact! The advance mechanism and shaft on shaft fit must also be good. Best of luck. Jim

Should add that you should first make sure your dizzy is in top shape before converting to IE. If there are problems with the dizzy (bad bushing ect) they will eventually effect the IE too.
