Hi does anyone know anything about these machines? Are they worth anything? Are they hard to get parts for etc... I'm currently looking at one for sale.
Thanks, Matt

The one on eBay? That guy is on the forum here. There are a few posts about this from the last couple weeks. There are some on Red Power as well.

Yes, parts are available. Orchard specific parts are not too easy to find.

An OS6 is essentially a W6 modified for orchard use. Both the OS6 and W6 use the same engine as the Farmall M. So engine parts will be readily available.

The OS6 has slightly different sheet metal (hood, fenders), operator station (hand clutch; steering wheel and seat location), exhaust routing, headlight location, etc. These parts unique to the OS6 will be more difficult to locate.

If the parts are all there and in decent shape an OS6 should be worth more than an equivalent W6 simply because not many OS6's were ever built.

Actually its not on ebay its locally near me. I am
going to take a look at it today hopefully. It as a
bucket on it too, but I'm not sure that a bucket
would make it worth anymore...Im just being cautious
because I dont want to buy it and have paid more
then its worth.

Sounds like Kennebuck Sawmill's to me. I find it hard to believe there are too many OS-6s with a bucket. IIRC he is from Maine???

(quoted from post at 08:37:11 08/29/11) Mine is an OS-4, I still have mine.

How could you navigate through an orchard with a bucket on? Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of a low profile tractor? I suppose you could clean out low celing barns that way???

Well, here is what I was told...southern Maine had a big fire in 1947....shortly there after, land was very cheap ($1/acre), many families bought up large sections of land & one popular use was apple orchards. My tractor was bought in Alfred Maine to be used at an orchard in Lyman, it was used for the apple chores, but, as the value of the land improved, people started selling off the land....around 1950, my tractor went from strickly an orchard tractor to more of a utility tractor & it has a snowblade for winter clearing....it was used as a chore tractor until about 1984 (it's last major service when it got 2 new tires & a clutch)....from then till now, it has been kept in good running condition, but not put to work. It is about the coolest tractor I had seen in a while, so I bought it....a week later, I was able to buy a 1947 Jeep CJ2a.....not having a huge bank account, I had to choose a winter project to invest my time & money into.....we have choosen to keep the Jeep & sell the tractor...my kids are more excited about riding in the Jeep than working on our 9th tractor (I only really use 2 anyway, one to mow & the one w/ the loader). So there you have it....origionally bought for a specific purpose, but, versitile enough to be used for chore duties when that purpose faded w/ the times. 207 450 6184 is my number if anyone wants to come try it out. I'm in southern Maine.
