I was looking for a cheap replacement rear tire for my H. I found an old 12x38 that's in good condition. But isn't that the same as the "modern" 13.6x38, and too big for the H's 10" rim? I have 11.2x38 tires on it now.

(quoted from post at 19:39:21 08/31/11) I was looking for a cheap replacement rear tire for my H. I found an old 12x38 that's in good condition. But isn't that the same as the "modern" 13.6x38, and too big for the H's 10" rim? I have 11.2x38 tires on it now.

Both of my Hs have 12.4x38 tires on 10 inch wide rims.

IH usually recommended that the rim width could be 1 inch narrower than the tread width. meaning a 10 inch rim is too small for a 12/13.6 inch tire. 11/12.4's are ok. The best fit, though, in your case are your existing 11.2's. Put two rims side by side, the 1 inch difference is visible, 2 inches is very visible.

My H has 14.9-38s on 10" rims, which were on the rims when I got them. It may look goofy but it has lots of traction.

Running two different sized tires, the tractor will almost certainly look goofy.

A 12-38 tire is also ANCIENT, stiff as a board. You'll have a heck of a time installing it.
