speed control lever on 1950 farmal H

farmal mark

I have a 1950 farmal H. The speed control lever moves by itself to slow the engine down instead of staying in one place as it should. Has anyone repaired one of these? Is there an exploded diagram of it available?

Thanks for you help!

You are talking about the throttle lever at the steering column?

Is it the "sawtooth" style,or friction disc??(M&W Style)

I've got a 52 M with the "sawtooth" type that slips all the time, so I would be interested to know the answer too. My 1947 M with the friction type throttle has no problem holding speed.

The teeth on either square tooth or saw tooth can be filed sharp and newlike. The lip on the lever can be welded a touch and filed t o sharp. The friction style can have the spring tightened (if it is OK, or replaced with a heavier one if tight now. New friction material is found in an old leather shoe. New replacement parts are also to be found. I like the friction style as it allows finer adjustment. Jim

thanks for the comments!

Where is a good place to get replacement parts for the friction type of speed control?

You can buy those friction disc all day long on EBAY cheap. My local Rural King carrys them also.

You can also get the whole assembly pretty reasonable.Fits both M and H

Never seen them over $5.00 I need a new one,as well,But I really like my friction throttle very well!
