Has anyone had any luck removing and installing the throttle shaft seal that is in the tube between the governor and the carburetor.
If so how did you do it?
Thanks, Mark

Not that I don't believe you, but my parts book shows one and the dealer sold me one.
Hope to see some more replies one way or another.
Thanks, Mark

Oh, I've been wrong before and will most likely be wrong again. Sure don't remember one and have replaced a few of those shaft many years ago.

I've never changed that seal, and I dont remember ever seeing one there.I've worked on quite a few H/M carbs.Or,are you talking about a little gasket between the carb and tube?-dont need it

If the H has one its a replacement throttle housing. IH didn't start putting a seal in them until sometime in 1954. Think if the housing number ends with D or DA they don't have the seal, DB would. Thats how they are on the M to 450 for sure.
To install I use a old throttle shaft with the prong cut off that goes in the carb shaft. To remove I used a thin small screw driver with end bent to go through the bushing and catch the seal. Or some I changed the bushing in the throttle housing also.

Thanks guys. I got a good look in the tube today and there was no seal.
DSlater my tube part number did end with DA.
