Replaced carb, fuel line, and put on fuel filter. Tank is clean and gas is running freely. Got tractor to start. Tractor ran as if it was at full throttle and would not idle down. Idle lever was in low position. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Sounds like when you installed the carb you did not line up the gov. to carb as in should be and if wrong funny things happen. You need to have the parts in the right place of it will not run as it should.

I would agree with Old. You will see a pointer sticking out of the governor tube that must line up in a slot in the throttle linkage. It will not govern if that is not lined up.

Will the pointer and governor tube detach completely from the governor? In order to attach the pointer to the carb then reinstall carb and shaft?

Not really.

Have to agree with the responses. I had the same thing happen with my Farmall H. Had the carburettor rebuilt, fitted it all up, started the engine and away it went at full throttle. Realized the error and removed the carburettor again. Second time around, made certain the throttle lever was in the idle position, the carburettor was in the idle position and that the tab locked in where it should. Problem solved. About to rebuild the M carburettor, so it should not happen to me this time around.
