450D battery

I lent my 450D to a neighbor who generously replaced the weak battery with a new one. I just realized that he installed it with negative ground and I don't remember which way is correct. Can someone help me remember please?

They can go either way if you repolarize the system. Some VRs have a preferance. You should repolarize the system after having the battery off anyhow.

Factory positive ground on gas and diesel. If ammeter reads charge, engine off , light on it is backwards. If it reads discharge, lights on , engine off some one has switched wires on ammeter previously and not to worry.

Doggone it,

Sure don't wanna argue with the Master, but the gassers were 6V positive and the diesels were 12v negative.

This started in 1954 on the 400.

Sorry fer being so darned old and rembering such silly things. :>)

No negative ground until 460- 560 etc. Just take a peek in the parts manual, it shows positive ground at the battery on 450 diesel. They were 12 volts on those diesels always.

Right in a 450D operaters manual.

Our 450D had positive ground. I remember hooking up the radio and there was a switch on the back to set it for positive ground tractors. I still have that radio.

Take a jumper wire and touch the battery terminal to the field terminal on your voltage regulator.
