Worked H good today.

I took the H into town and filled it up today, then pulled the disk
for a couple of hours helping a friend grade around a new
driveway.

It ran very well and pulled the 10' disk in 3rd gear just fine. The
disk has some bad coulters and will need maintenance this
winter.

You pulled a 10 foot disk in 3rd gear because it was not penetrating enough to do much good. For a driveway, ok, but not under field conditions. When I drove my dad's H in the 50's we used a heavily weighted 6 foot disk in third. A ten ft disk with that weight probably wouldn't pull in 1st.

Maybe it's a 10' single disc. I have pulled a 10' tandem with an M in North Dakota small-grain- country soil.

An H will pull a 10' double disc all day long on hard unplowed ground.

If it was plowed 9" deep and the disc was cutting well, that's another story.

DeltaRed,
Comments like that will push guys away. I take offense to your comment even though I'm a newby that knows the difference.

The disk was my dads, it is tandem and not overly heavy and
penetrates about 3"

Some of you guys are really mean.

I'm with David, it was mean (and I am known to not be so nice sometimes) He probably worked his tractor twice as hard as most of the tractors on this forum. Hell, it had something hooked to the drawbar!!! That is better than 90% of the guys on here.

David G.
I pulled a 10ft 3" IH 350 disk with a farmall H for over 3 years. 2 passes and I had a nice seed bed. Yes I had to drop a gear in tough places. Yes the muffler was cherry red when I was pulling hard. But the old 8 ft Coby disk I had bit the dust.
I could pull in 3rd on the first pass and sometimes I could get into 4rd on the second pass. Working the Hyd you could get the right mix of deep enough and speed to make it work.
Thanks for sharing! It brought back memories.

That kind of talk or responses are precisely why I quit posting here,or anywhere on this whole site for that matter, there are too many "correct police" on here that have a bad attitude about things not being done or said the way they "think" it should be said or done.

great post David, good to see somebody is out using their old iron. Haters can head on over to you tube... you'll have plenty of company over there.
