Is it possible to recharge the gas spring on these seats yourself or do you need to take them into a dealer? The seat works, but does not have enough pressure apparently to hold me up. Thanks

You can recharge them yourself. We had a little adaptor so you could check pressure as you charged. If I remember correctly it is 45psi. If you have a regulator on your compressor you can set it down to about that much and with a little monkeying around get some charge in it. It is supposed to have nitrogen but air is ok.

As I recall, Dad used a football inflating needle to recharge the seat somehow. It was a long time ago, and I was too little to understand what he did.

Regular old compressor air is 78% nitrogen. The "nitrogen" they use to fill tires these days is only like 95% IIRC.
