installed new clutch and p/p, when bolted on fingers went in towards fly wheel. seemed backwards, did i miss somthing doesnt look like throwout bearing will travel far enuff to dissengage clutch

Look and see if there are small nuts between the fingers and the plate where they pivot. They put em in there to keep the clutch plate loose so the it alines when you put the halfs together. Once it's bolted up one press on the clutch pedal releases em and they falls out the inspection hole.

The levers need to pull in toward the flywheel as you install the pressure plate. They only need to travel about 1/4 inch to release the disk.

As things wear the levers will move back so you need to readjust the clutch to keep the release bearing from touching the levers. When you run out of adjustment the levers have moved back so far the release bearing cannot be adjusted to get free travel and it's time for a new clutch again.
