Farmall C Grill Screen

Restoration underway on my C. I'm having a heck of a time trying to remove the clips that hold the screen on the front grill. Could these clips be spot welded? I have not be able to remove a single one.

Ditto here. Been there, done that. some will bend up, and some will break. Not a crisis....but no other way I know of to git 'em off.

Those clips were spot welded as i have found the same problem when replacing grille screen. You will in most ruin most of them. Replacements can be had when getting new screen as some of the suppliers will include them with purchase of new screen. You will not find original screen anywhere but from aftermarket suppliers i have tried to buy a whole roll of that screen and never been able to find a supplier must come from overseas or else a big secret. I do make my own clips as i have a partial roll of the screen i bought a long time ago.

The screen is an oddball size. It's 5 squares per inch.

Hardware stores only stock 1/4" square (4 squares per inch). That's all they can get. 5 squares per inch screen isn't even listed in the catalog.

I'm sure there's only one place in the whole world that makes the replacement screen, and they do a special run to make it, for the handful of aftermarket parts places that sell it.

It's a fun job getting all those clips off. There are still a few of the old ones on my grill. I pulled out/clipped off the old screen around the clip, and just put a new one next to the old one. You can't tell the old ones are there.

Edit: I used fencing pliers to attach the clips, using the points to make a pressure point after I squeezed the %^*#!! out of them with a vise grip.

Good point about the mesh size. However, I would challenge anyone to tell the difference between the different sizes once they are installed..........

IMHO

Thank you all... I will apply a bit more muscle and buy replacement clips.
The screen is in near perfect condition, but I don't want to paint it red - I like the silver contrast.

Ive looked on the net asked suppliers and what ever but someone does make the stuff as too many places have it for sale, Me being a collector fan or what ever i can spot wrong screen 40 paces away.

Yes Gene, but you are the exception. You are also one of the best known subject matter experts on these tractors.

My point was, to the average Joe, at a show or similar, they are not going to notice the difference. There are a few things on these old girls I can spot too, not as many as you, but one again, average joe won't notice.
