I am ready to split the cub to replace thr rear main crank seal. Should I remove the hydrolics from the engine side or the hydrolic unit? Is it easier to roll the front half forward or the rear half back? Thanks for any help. Wayne

From what I have seen most people (myself included) leave the front stationary and roll the back away. The wider foot print make it more stable to move around in my opinion; plus you have the brakes if needed and transmission to hold in place without having to block it too

Don't forget to wedge the front axle. Disconnect the Hyd lines from the touch control. Remove the steering wheel and shaft completely, but put a zip-tie on the shaft near the seal retainer to keep it from sliding down the shaft and damaging the seal if you stand it up. Readjust the clutch fingers when you reinstall the pressure plate, then adjust the pedal free-play. And, as was mentioned, leave the front, and roll the rear back.

I moved the front half away. I don't think it matters all that much but I thought I could support the back half easier and left the front half hanging on the engine hoist. As far as the hydraulics go I took mine off on both ends. You are going to dump the fluid either way and it is probably a good time to change the gaskets and "O" rings anyway. It is really pretty easy. Good luck.

With respect, the trans will not "lock" anything with no engine. Unless one removes the cover and puts it in two gears at once. Brakes yes! Jim

Duh! Your right! Did not occure to me when I typed that up...we always throw them back in gear after pushing them back. Just out of habit I guess!

Got it all apart with no problems. rear main was leaking.replaced it and checking things out I found splines almost gone on cluthc disc and release bearing seized.Ordering more parts. Won't be going back together today. Thanks for all the help from everyone. Things went very smoth.

The original graphite throw-out bearing does not turn. If you replace it, get the new one from CaseIH. Aftermarket bearings usually are shipped dry, rather than presoaked in oil.
