One for the folks who know about the Farmall AM tractor. I have not seen the machine yet, but am told that it is in good order, runs well, good tyres etc. Do I assume same value as for a Farmall M? The only real difference I can seen between an M and an AM is the coil ignition fitted to AM tractors and (sometimes) the bigger rear wheels on AM tractors. It would be nice to have one on the farm beside the 1939 M and the 1940 H, though it will have to earn its keep working on the farm. Any ideas - don't want to pay too much and don't want to rip the chap off - have to sleep well at night.

I would assume that the M would be worth more there since they are imports.
An AM would be worth more here as it is an import and rarer to us in the USA.

This is just an opinion.

Aussie built M

Not all tractors were made in the USA.
Some were made in Britain, Australia and I heard some were made in France.

I do not know the % of AM to M tractors in Australia. If near equal I would assume they were similar in price. Lucas electric and Delco electric might be differences. I would not hesitate offwering what you can agree on.
Happy on both ends is a good deal. later remorse is not intended, but happens on both sides of the fence. It could have a crankshaft cracked near through!
it could be one of three tractors built with special gearing.
But "no worries" (as I have been told is a common expression) if a hand shake makes it good for both when sold.
The seller needs to be responsible for knowing the value of the unit being sold, as does the buyer. One to assure it is fair, and the other to assure it is what they want at that price.
Do it. Jim

Have a friendly conversaion over a cup of coffee...find a price that is mutually acceptable, something that will make both of you happy. Then you will have found its true value.Dont worry about anybody elsees opinion,Its none of thier damn business!

Thanks everyone for the replies! Heading up to New South Wales for a chat. There is an IH truck on offer too, not sure what model.
And no, you are most certainly not a dummy to ask what is an AM. Always good to ask questions. I have asked plenty on this forum and no doubt some are perfectly obvious to many people; that is why I ask them - they have the answers!

Picture of AM from Owner's Manual attached.
