12 volt battery and box for an M?

I have to get a new battery for my m and i do not have the old one for a reference on size, my brother in law does not remember what he did with it....it has be converted to 12 volt, can anyone tell me what i need? I want to add a battery box also, do they make aftermarket battery boxes for m"s with a 12 volt batt.? i know i could measure the battery and find a box to fit but that does not mean it will fit in the tractor.

sorry to trouble you with trivial stuff but its not in the manual and i dont want to buy the wrong battery and box, thanks for the help.

Yes, aftermarket battery boxes are available, and a 12 volt battery will fit in it just fine.

I purchased my battery box from Steiner"s, then measured the inside of the box, went down to Kmart and bought a battery that would fit. I think it ended up being the smallest auto battery that Kmart sold so I didn"t have a lot of CCA options, but the M engines are pretty small 4 cylinders without much compression so it is more than enough.
My tractor is 30 minutes away, but you could call Steiners at 800-link_disallowed and ask them to measure the interior of the battery box.
Just remembered, last week I got an email from OEM tractor parts, they have battery boxes on sale, $20 off, only $65 for the box.

The original 6v was called a Group 3, a 12v with the same demensions was called a 27.

An M has a lot of compression... a decent 12 v battery will fit right in the original box
