Farmall M Trojan Grader

Just got a Farmall M Trojan Grader. I was wondering about the coloring. It looks like all, or most of it, has the Farmall red underneath, but the hood has been painted white, and there are several traces of a kind of lime green on it too. I was wondering about the green, because it seems like I've heard of certain highway departments that used a green like that. If anyone has some input on this, I would love to hear it.

I'll take some pictures of the grader tomorrow and post them on here.

Thanks, Clint.

Those Farmall M/Trojan graders were fairly common in rural highway depts when I was a kid in the 1950's. (They were assembled right up the road at the Trojan plant in Batavia, NY.)

Generally the graders were painted red, same as highway dept dump trucks, snowplows, etc. A few however were finished in "highway yellow".

Incidentally there's a restored grader that turns up at a couple local shows here every summer - it's painted yellow. Fascinating old machine!

I think you could paint it any color you like!Red would be nice,so would a shade of hiway yellow or orange. How about painting it the same color as your localcounty/state hiway dept? Can you post a pic? Thanks

I saw one of the Trojan graders in real good shape at the Western New York Gas & Steam Show Association show this past September. The show is near Batavia where Bob M said they were assembled. If you contacted the show as per their website, they may be able to tell you who the owner is. Nice people up there.

Paul -

Here's that nice Trojan grader at the Western NY Gas & Steam show last September.

Sharp-looking unit!

Thanks, Bob M. The DOT here in SC had some of the Trojans in their equipment inventory but were finally junked (or sold) for newer Galion graders in late 60's. I vaguely recall the Trojans coming in new painted yellow. Great show up in Alexander

Paul,

Ive seen a couple at different shows here that the onwers said they were state owned. So some did survive. There was a gentleman near me who recently passed away who had several state owned Galions, and one Trojan also state owned. Seems he went to state auctions alot!

Great photos Bob, I enjoyed looking at them! Thanks for posting!
I did have to stop at this one... Now I know why the Cubs dashes are always cracked up how the front hood hangers get broken off!!

I had one in about the same shape follow me home a few couple of weeks ago. Mine appears to be red all the way to the mill scale.
Please let me know if you find any sources for parts. Need a rear rim to begin with.

Just took a look at Google maps, looks like the plant location is now a Rite-Aid and a Citgo station. Is the Eastside Business Center part of the old plant?

I'll let you know if I run across anything, but I think the only thing that really needs work on mine is just the Farmall part, so I really won't be looking too far around for parts. I really don't know much about them myself; I just found it for sale not too far away from me and thought I'd like to have one. I have heard of a few guys that collect and fix these things up, so if I find any information on them, I'll let you know, because they could possibly be a source for parts.
