I have an 1966 IH 504 Diesel. Is it possible to clean the glow plugs and re-install or are they just replaced.

Take one to a good auto parts store, I have gotten some for as low as 6.00ea. The dealer wanted 35.00.

if it is a working glow plug, re use it (especially if if it has low hours on it) cleaning it with agressive intent will kill it. Jim

both threads have good ideas, but as cheap as you can buy them, if you already have taken them out,you are half way there on replacing them with new...then a piece of mind knowning that it's going to start...

Did you test them? You just unhook them all, and then hook one up at a time, and punch the glowplug button. There should be a moderately slow rise at the needle on the gauge. If it goes nowhere, or hard over to the right, the plug is junk. Diconnect that one, adn test another.

Good luck!
