Governor help Please!! For Farmall 340

My farmall 340 was working fine one second, then the next the governor was hunting, and now it works when it wants. It will work for a second, then when under load it backs down to idle. If I give a pull on the carb linkage it will go back up to proper idle, then it will go back down. The spring is good as seen in oil fill hole and linkage outside the housing is all good and straight. Where to start now. How important is the adjustment of the bumper spring under the housing. All ideas are welcome so I don"t have to tear the old girl apart.

1.Hand control at idle.
2. disconnect governor spring.
3. Adjust length of Governor spring rod, by loosening the lock nut and rotating the rod in the plunger until the bottom of the plunger just contacts the governor lever and holds it in the idle position.
4. Reconnect spring and tighten the lock nut.

This is from a MF 50, but I think the principle is the same.
Do you have a manual for the tractor?
Would be a great help.
There are other preliminary adjustments and you should carry out minor governor adjustments after completing above

I have everything adjusted as it is supposed to be. I have the manual and have done what it says. These are the same type governors as the b and c tractors and so on. If that helps anyone.
