shiffter..706

awhile back I read something about putting a different shiffter on the 706. may be from 756 or m&w or something. Can anyone tell me about that? Does one work better than the other . Mine has 1,2,3,4,on one handle and reverse, neutural, low and high on the other. Is there a differencein how they work or shifft?

You are talking about the "56 series" style shifter.

It still has 1234 on one lever and HLNR on the other. The difference is, Reverse is on a separate linkage. You move the range lever to N, then swing it to the right and back for Reverse.

AFAIK it's a ton of parts an a ton of work to make the change.

Back in the day, it was a conversion kit. You can't get the kit anymore. It's a nearly 50-year-old tractor after all...

You would have to get the parts off a junked 56 series tractor. Only problem with that is everything is probably worn on the 56 series shift linkage too.

You'd be better off fixing the slop in your 06 linkage.
