Hitachi Alternator Pulley?

I just picked up a Hitachi alternator from NAPA and it did not come with a pulley. Should it have? Do I need to fabricate a different top bracket for my H, or do I use a spacer?

Randy

Flip the bottom bracket upside down, and use a piece of all-thread to mount the alternator to it. If I remember correctly the generator pulley works on the alternator.

The generator pulley does not fit the Hitachi alternator. I have already flipped the bottom bracket, wondering about the top, if I have to bend it.

On mine, I did not alter the top bracket at all. I'm also 99% sure my generator pulley fit. What is the Hitachi part number of the alternator you bought?

The one I bought for my Allis G had a pulley on it. it was a split pulley needed to put a spacer between the split so my belt would fit. Nice small unit.

Used one from advance auto store. Came with pulley that was two halfs like the other poster said. Pulley is a little narrow so I put a spacer between halfs and then staked the nut. Also could locktight the nut. Don't think the nut would come loose anyway if good and tight, but didn't chance it. Reason is there's not enough room for the lock washer if pulley is spaced wider.

I was readding your coments and was wondering how you did the wirring of the alt, change over Thankyou John

The generator pulley doesn't work because IH used generators with a longer armature shaft to allow for the adjustable pulley. The alternator shaft will be too short to get the nut installed.

I guess it's that 1% that gets you every time. I remembered having to mess with the pulley but thought it was the gen. pulley. It was putting the washer in the pulley to widen it that I was thinking of. That's the good thing about this forum, lots of minds to pick information from.
