Demonstrator

I am looking to buy a Farmall C demonstrator. The seller informed me that the engine is not the correct one and also the serial number tag is missing. The tractor has been re painted white. what should some of my concerns be while looking at this tractor? Is there any way to tell without the serial number tag?

FAKE!!! Run. other wise price of a regular c. No tag engine changed no way to prove. FWIW I plan on painting one of my SAs as a demo but upon parting with the tractor, if alive, will let the buyer know and will leave the tag intact.

Should have S or T casting numbers, no T's later than March, No S's before about Sept. Anything other than S or T means the casting has been replaced or the tractor is a fake. Ask for pictures of white under red paint before he painted it white. No proof, forget it. All demos were assembled in Jan, Feb, March of 1950.

Hey, I've got a gold demonstrator and a spirit of 76 Case for sale to. Of course after all these years the serial numbers are gone and they have been repainted but trust me they are originals.

Thanks I hear what you are saying, so wthe with that said what would the value be of a c? Or dose anyone know were I can find a real one? Thanks

They are around...but you hafta remember that there were none listed by serial number specifically as White demos...somewhere in one of Guy Fay's books he give a serial number range within which most of the White Cs fall...if memory serves it was in early 1950. IF (and that's a BIG if now that everyone claims to have one) someone can prove that it really was a white demo (maybe white paint a couple layers down somewhere fairly well hidden, remember, most if not all were repainted red then sold) then MAYBE $300-$400 more than the $1200 you would expect to pay for a decent straight C. Keep in mind, you just have to convince your self...you will NEVER be able to prove it for sure to anyone. I wouldn't be afraid to paint a red one white and call it a replica...if it falls in the serial number range it'll prolly be as real as most of 'em ya see out there now!
