Farmall MD manifold

Hello,

I have a question about my Farmall MD manifold switch.
My farmall has an battery ignition.
The previous owner didn't use the manifold switch. Does anyone know how is it supposed to run. I think this switch belong to A magneto ignition.
Maybe someone has a wiring diagram? Or advice?

Kinds Regards,

The manifold switch should be closed with the starting handle in "gas" (start) mode and open in the "diesel" (run) mode.

If the tractor was originally equipped with a magneto it will have a single terminal switch works the opposite from above: It will be open in "gas" mode and closed (terminal is shorted to ground) in "diesel"

I think this switch belongs to a magneto.
Does anyone know where i can get a switch for a battery ignition. In my opinion their must go 2 wires to the manifold switch. Now one wire that goes to the manifold switch. In the parts catologus their are also 2 wires that goes to the manifold switch(battery ignition).
In this situation I have no place for 2 wires.
I prefer to keep the battery ignition on the tractor.
Does somebody has a solution for my problem?

You are correct - a manifold switch for battery ignition will have 2 terminals.

If you can't find a 2 wire manifold switch to replace your existing 1 terminal switch, probably the easiest work around is a simple toggle switch mounted on the light bracket. Supply the switch from the "load" side of the ammeter; wire the other switch pole to the ignition coil primary.

In addition I highly recommend also wiring an indicator light to light when the ignition is "on". It will remind you shut off the ignition once the engine is running in diesel mode.

Hello,

Thank you Bob.
I prefer to keep it original, don't you know a correct manifold switch for me? In the Netherlands parts for a Farmall are quite rare. Don't you know a salvage yard where I can find one?
