Demonstrator

So I have already posted that I got this new demonstrator C. Now that I have her home I am wanting to work on it a bit. the serial number tag is a little hard to read and looks like crap. I know you can buy new tags but what would that do to the value? would It be hard to prove I did not fake it? or Should I keep the old one and re rivet it on like in the tool box for proof?

secondly the engine is supposedly out of a combine and it has a dipstick. Would it be beneficial to the value to put in a more closely matched casting number? I paid 1900 for the tractor and I think that is a fair price but if I do a new engine I do not want to be under water if you know what I mean.

Thanks Farmalldan

Dan, keep the old tag on. Do you no who changed the engine? Could the old block still be around?
Your C is what it is. Don"t change much. oldiron29

If I owned that sweet machine I would leave it as it is. Have fun with it, and casually look for a serial # or casting codes that are correct for a demo. Then plan to rebuild it in good time with no hurry if it needs it. Transplanting the engine is cake when the time comes to go for a resale (if ever) Jim

Well, did you buy it to use or to restore and sell? Then there is your answer. If it was me I would keep everything as is and use it because demonstrator or not they are not going to let you retire off of what you could sell it for.

I picked up this tractor for my son he is almost five years old. I am for sure going to be using this tractor I have a Woods belly mower I cut my yard with and I want to restore to the tractor I have it on now so I am giving the new white toy a tune up, and getting her ready for the mower. to be a substitute while the other Super C is under repair. after that I was thinking about finding a block and building a new engine for the white beast. I am just not totally sure about changing the block or just leaving it as is. As far as the re sale goes I have only sold one tractor in my life and that was a 460 diesel the engine blow up and cost to much to fix.

I wouldn't touch the tag. You already have a transplanted engine, if you put a new tag on it the correct police will totally dismiss it as a frankenstein. Unless you can find the origianl engine, even if just to put on a pallet in the barn because its junk, but be able to say here is the original engine. Any other engine is just another replacement and therefore a waste of money. An imperfect original is still original, a replacement is just shiny. It all depends on what you want it to be I guess, after all it is your tractor.

Leave the tag alone. If you ever want to restore it, you will have at least 3 times more than what it cost. You can take pride in restoring it as I take pride in the 4 tractors I have done, but you, me and anyone else are going in the hole.

Yes I agree it is costly to restore tractors but it is worth it. Since this tractor is my 4 year old sons we will make it a father son project. That makes it priceless. Only thing is I have a second son and need to find a white cub.

You are underwater if you spend $100-200 on this tractor let alone the cost of a rebuild. I don't think you paid too much for it, but I don't think you will sell it for much more (unless things get really wacky) The moral of the story is do to it whatever you would like, but don't expect to get paid back for all of it.

I would buy a new tag if you would like. NEVER EVER toss the original. Just because you got a replacement tag doesn't mean you have an imposter, but if you toss the original tag your tractor will be a fake. I like your idea of glue/riviting it to the tool box of the tractor. That way it is always with the tractor and it can't get lost.
