Thanks to everyones advice about my fuel flow problem. I have isolated it to the carb. The rebuild kit I purchased had a new seat. I installed that and set the float level. Still starved. Then I noticed the old seat had a larger hole and it is marked as 40. So I intalled that seat with a new needle. Now carb overflows. Any advice would be appreciated

Install the new seat AND the new needle, but clean both parts thoroughly with aerosol carb cleaner before installing. The new parts have a residue left on them from the manufacturing process and that residue causes the needle to STICK in the seat, and if the needle is STUCK, gasoline cannot flow through.

Does the size of the hole in the seat make a big difference in the fuel flow? The original one is noticeably larger.

Yes if the old one has a big hole yes it would let more fuel get by but it may not be enough to make much if any difference. As for using the parts from the kit with the old parts well not likely to work since as you know the parts are mismatched and parts have to match in size. I would make sure things are clean and open as in double check for rust/dirt in the carb inlet and als do as Rusty said to do

(quoted from post at 09:35:55 02/01/12) Thanks Guys you are always helpful... coating on new parts, who knew?

Don't know that I would call it a coating as such, but it gave me absolute fits until one day when I had a "cure it or kill it" moment and decided the carb cleaner sure wasn't going to hurt anything, so I tried it, and lo and behold, that was the answer. I've also learned that a quick shot of silicon spray lube on both parts will give the carburetor a lengthy "shelf life".
