Super M vs. 450

As I work on my M (family hand down) i keep thinking that I would much rather restore this tractor to original to pass down to my kids and then get something else to do the work around my property.

I will be using a box blade, boom pole, loader, york rake, pulling a wagon, etc....I was leaning towards the 450 w/wide front because of HP, power steering, and i believe live hydraulics.

Just wondering what your thoughts are and which way you all would recommend I go...I"m not buying anything soon but I would like to keep my eyes out there for the possible great deal that may pop up! I really want to stick with the older stuff too, i understand the new stuff is better for what im doing but I love the old stuff, THANKS GUYS!

I was looking at a 450 gas just like you described to do about the same work you are doing,(minus loader.)With the 3 point conversion gear, thay can be usefull.

They are good machines.

In defence of the 'M'...A 450 is a modernized 'M'.For what you will be doing,Idought you will notice the power difference. The 450 will be handier to operate,But an 'M' set up right will be very satisfactory. My M has the Wide, live hydralics,3point,'live'(MW hand clutch)pto. The only time it needs power steering is if you are at a 'dead stop',a little 'roll' you can spin it one handed. It has served me well for nearly 30 years.

I have both M and 450. The 450 with power steering and a fast hitch is a darn good tractor. Quite a bit handier than the M. Don"t overlook a 400 though. Set up with power steering and the later fast hitch, it is basically the same tractor as a 450. Most have had the larer pistons and sleeves put in them at one time or another.
