It ain't your carburetor! Either there is a foriegn object in the gas tank which periodically BLOCKS the flow of fuel, or the gas cap vent has an issue.

Something floating around in your gas tank or your outlet is plugged coming out the bottom or your fuel cap isn"t venting, would be what I would check.

I had a carb I rebuilt one time. The rubber tip on float valve would stick shut. I finally took it apart and rubbed dirt on the valve. It never stuck again.

If you always have fuel at the inlet, but sometimes not in the float bowl, I'd go with Cowman and say the needle is sticking.

Greg

How much gas is coming out the line? Is it flowing or is there just enough to make the end of the line wet? Did your English teacher ever tell you about sentence run-ons?

I have a 1948 H with the same problem. I have been messing with it for a month. Great fuel flow but the carb starves after about 15 minutes. I have been in the carb many times I have had the tank off and cleaned it, I have replaced the sediment bowl, fuel lines etc.. I am at a loss. So my tractor is currently just sitting.

Float hanging up? The hinge and pin can wear and let the float hit the side of the carb. If it's the original it's been sloshing around in there for 64 years. Jim

Also look for a stuck float. It can touch the sides of the bowl and hang up. Bend it gently and check it if it rubs. THe little tab on the float that pushes on the needle can be crooked and cause a stuck needle as well. Jim

I would also check or replace the fine brass mesh screen at the inlet of the carb where the fuel line screws in, but I have to agree, it sure sounds like the needle is sticking.

I agree with Rusty check your gas cap and make sure its vented and if it is make sure its not plugged. when it starves, run it with the cap off and see if it clears up.

A Farmall H carburetor float would have to be twisted quite a bit before it will rub the sides of the fuel bowl. Yes, it CAN happen, but not nearly so readily as the float in the M carburetor.

When it acts up shine a flash light in the tank and make sure there's nothing over the tank outlet. Fifteen or twenty years ago when it was 20 below and a blizzard ever other day around here I was warming up my Super C and decided a bottle of heet would'nt hurt. When I popped the little white cap off the bottle it bounced off the tank into the tank. What can that hurt, right? Probably a month later it would spit ,sputter and die and then be ok again. Had the carb apart and every thing else and then it stopped in a snow bank and would'nt run at all, shined a flash light in the tank and there was the bottle cap I forgot about positioned perfectly over the tank outlet.
Also make sure you gas cap vent is not plugged.
