SMD Live Hydraulics

My '53 SMD has an add on live hydraulic pump and is using the belly tank as the reservoir. Should there be some sort of pick up screen to protect the pump?

I would put a high flow (15GPM or more) 10 Micrion filter (screw on) in the suction line to the pump. Jim

The valve schematic shows putting a filter on the return line to the reservoir. If you don't think I would have volume/priming issues, then I agree it would be best in the suction line. Thanks

I use clean dishes to eat, and recommend the same for hydraulic systems. Why clean it after it has contaminated everything in the system? Jim
