I have a PERFECT original if somebody would like to use it as a template. Too bad OEM isn't the company it used to be.

Is that for an M?
I may take you up on that!

BTW, I saw that you found some parts to get your wd9 going, but were you able to find any new parts at any price?

That came with an H I bought last week. It is a 41 in pretty nice shape with a tired engine. It would be a resonable tractor to restore, but I think I am going to use it to save my Grandfather-in-laws 43 H.

I couldn't find them at a price I was willing to pay  There was one guy who advertises in RPM that had a set of stock pistons and sleeves for $1200. IIRC it was Weber Tractor Parts. I did see main bearings in the last RPM for $450 for a set. I did find a really nice guy in NY that had a good set of used stock pistons and sleeves for $500. I thought that was fair. I know we aren't doing this to get rich, but I don't think I want to put 100% of the tractors resale value into the motor. I never had to break into my second parts motor to get parts. I haven't taken the block etc to the machine shop to see if any of those parts are junk.

I am pretty much set and ready to go. Now all I need is time and money. This will be my first restored tractor and I am pretty "Correct Police" when it comes to restoration. I will build up a motor or do hidden tweaks, but when it comes to external appearance I like to keep things factory. I would really like to find a seat that doesn't require hours of work, but that might be a tough find. I have to fab up a drawbar swinger mount thingy, too. It is tough to do all the little things.

Yeah, just takes time and money, that's all.

I was curious as I'm still thinking about a smaller IH dozer and a TD9 uses the same basic engine. I looked at some smaller Caterpillars and some you can't get parts period.

Something that fits in the IH collection would be nice, and it would be nice to know that you could get parts if you had to have them.

They were right when they told you to look for a newer dozer. I like to collect and all but these gas start diesels are more of a toy then a tool IMO. This is based on parts availability, cost of parts, ease of use, power, etc. Of course if you want a toy that can do a little work it would be a good fit.

There are parts out there, but you don't want to buy one you need to fix. If you do NEVER plan on trying to sell it for what you have in it.

if a person wanted to make one just for looks it wouldnt be that hard. You wouldnt have to round the top as you cant see it unless the hood is off. I have one on my M and was going to make up something for my H but then I found anther for it.

Glenn, that looks fantastic! I can't thank you enough for the work on it! I really hope to be able to break down my H and paint it this summer. Hopefully I'll have pics to post by August.

Again, thank you very much!

Oh, and I'm on a carrier. USS Carl Vinson. I'm a Flight Deck Coordinator Chief with VFA-25.

Mike

That was kind of my line of thinking. _IF_ I run across one that still has plenty of life left in it, i.e. I can get most of what I need out of it without major repair. And of course it depends on the price.

I do have some work to be done, but I'm not going into the dozing business. Haven't found much yet in my area, new or old, in the size range I need.

carrier eh?? thats a pretty big boat!!!my step dad served on the Antietam CV-36 in the Korean conflict. bosuns mate. ya think i'd look good in a USS Carl Vinson baseball cap??????? (hint hint). be safe out there and dont be gettin in any bru-ha ha's in a geisha house!!!!

Glenn, I think you'd look better in a VFA-25 baseball cap. ;) Hell, I'll send you both!

glennster, from what I understand all A 10s are used now and get COMPLETELY refurbished when one is needed. When the military needs one they pull it ALL the way down to the airframe, add new parts to the exsiting framework to make it better that what it was when new and rebuilt it all the way back up.I want an A 10 also !!! lol

They do the same thing with the M 1 Abrams tanks. No new frames are built. They just COMPLETELY overhaul the old frames and start over.

BTW,nice metal working on the shield! ;)
