Model C pricing?

I have a 1951 Farmall C that I might part with. It is in very good (amature restored) condition. What could I realistically expect to get on the market these days?

Also, is it worth taking these to equipment auctions? I have seen nice restored tractors go for 7k, and the same basic machine go for $1800...

Any thoughts?

"Very good" is meaningless because that is your opinion, not a subjective measure of the tractor's condition.

"Amateur restoration" is meaningless too. Did you just slap some paint on with a roller, or did you tear it down and replace every seal, gasket, and bearing?

No pictures make it totally impossible to judge; even with pictures it's difficult because they always look better in the picture.

Tire condition could easily double the value of the tractor these days. Rotten old tires add no value at all.

A plain-jane C with decent paint, good used tires, no major issues would be worth around $1200-$1400 to me. Wide front would bring the value up to $1400-$1600. Add new tires, and you're looking at $2000+.

What front end do you have narrow or wide, what shape are the tires in, standard hitch or aftermarket 3 pt etc? For the run of the mill C narrow front you in the 1300-1700 range, if you have new tires your in 1700 to 2000 range, wide front add 300-400. Also this is gauged in New England pricing and we run 10-20 percent higher many times. Either way is tough market.

I got a 1951 SuperC. I got about 3500 into it and I know I could never get that out of it. I paid 1450 for it about ten years ago. I've put new tires on it, new carb, rebuilt hydraulic pump, converted it to 12 volt, added a Saginaw 3 point, and gave it a rattle can paint job over top the faded paint on it. I enjoy having it and use it a little around the farm. I also use it for hayrides I give in the fall at my roadside pumpkin stand. I enjoy telling everyone it was built the same year I was born and how hard it can still work compared to me. Its hard to fix one up and get your money back out of it. I figure my kids will let it go in my estate auction they will have after I'm gone.

You are not going to get 7K. I have 2 C's both bought at auction 5-10 years ago -- average about $1650, which I imagine similar tractors would sell for today. I have restored one, complete engine overhaul, urethane paint, new tires and a 3 point. If I sold it at auction I would put a $3500 reserve on it to make sure I don't give it away. Not anyway near what I have in it, and it might not sell for that price.

I bought a 49 c two years ago original paint, good tires everything works, one owner, good runner, one set of rear weights $1400. Hope this gives you an idea what it's worth.
