Need to pull the Injector pump from my d358 Ih motor which is in a 3964 B track Excavator, motor came from a 1420 IH combine. Having trouble with finding the correct timing marks. The front pulley has TDC marks but inside the cover by pump do not line up to #1, I have turned it over several times, What am I doing wrong? Or is there a mark on the cam gear? Or on the housing ?

Most VE pumps have no internal marks like VA did, and use lift dial gauge to set timing. You can also scribe a line on pump and timing cover if drive shaft has key for alignment, also check flywheel, may have marks there. Most VE pumps I see have lock timing.

if you have a bosch single plunger pump remove the housing or cover on the side of the pump head. Bar the engine over until the stationary mark lines up with the mark on the gear tooth. other brands of pumps are a lot alike. This, of course, is assuming the pump has been timed correctly by the previous installer.

It ran well, but leaked bad from the head. Ignore the timing marks inside the front inspection cover ? and use the marks on side of injector pump cover? Front gear is keyed
