Honing stuck SH cyl walls

I have the head off the stuck SH and found some corrosion blisters on walls. If i hone these walls clean do I need to get steering column out of way.? how does that column come out?

The horizontal steering shaft comes out by removing the grill and unscrewing the big pipe cap on the upper bolster, removing the bolt and key by the U joint and spinning the shaft so that the worm gear unscrews from the half moon gear and the whole shaft can be removed.
