Fast hitch question

I'm getting ready to order a replacement cylinder for my Super C. fast hitch. Does anyone know what size piston the original one had? The one on it now looks to be a 2" piston and I'm thinking of stepping up to a 3" one.

Thanks!

2.5" x 8" with clevises on both ends.

They are easy to rebuild with a kit From Baum Hydraulics. Think the kit is around $25. I rebuilt 4 last year. I added a bit of internal chamfer on one end of the barrel. Makes it much easier to reassemble without damaging the new rings. I did that in a lathe using a steady rest.

The cylinders also come up on eBay frequently.

If the original cylinder is 2 inch, a 3 inch will be more than twice as slow and more than twice as powerful. 2.25, or 2.5 is a better bigger choice. Jim

Using a larger cylinder may not be the smartest thing to do. The 2.5" cylinder will produce 75% more force than the original.

The original cylinder was designed for the lift capacity of the hitch. A 2.5" cylinder will lift almost 2X as much weight. The hitch can break, the tractor can flip over backwards.

Also, the cheapest 2.5" cylinder is over $60 on ebay, plus shipping. Locally it will cost you well over $100. You will also need different hoses and some fittings. A rebuild kit costs $25, and you can do it yourself with simple hand tools.

Rebuild the cylinder.

My parts book for a 200 thru 240 shows a 2 1/2" cylinder. The Super C should be the same. I can't see a 2" being big enough to lift much at all. Actually, just from memory I would have said a 3", but the parts book is no doubt better than my memory  .

(quoted from post at 12:20:32 03/19/12) Why would I need different hose and fittings? Shouldn't the ports be the same size?

I seem to recall, and the parts book confirms, the cylinder on our Super C had a limit stop adjustment. Most aftermarket low cost models do not have that. IH cylinder is #[b:f3a3137664]360 994 R91[/b:f3a3137664] 2 1/2"x 8" (standard SAE length for remote implement cylinders) with limit stop. Porting may be different if you are replacing it with an aftermarket cylinder... could be pipe vs. JIC, could be a different size 1/2" vs 3/4" pipe or -8, -10 or -12 JIC.
